Easter Egg Hunt and Activities, Mar 23

Bunny helpers came at 1:15 to help set up the egg hunt. The festivities started at 2pm with a kids' Easter Egg Hunt. Several eggs had coupons for extra prizes. Then there was an opportunity to decorate boiled eggs.  Then these eggs were used in Pacque Tournament (also called “Knockin Eggs” Or “Egg Pocking."). Egg pocking is a game and Cajun tradition that takes place on Easter Sunday where two people compete against one another to see who has the strongest Easter egg.
That was followed by a traditional egg toss with raw eggs. There were prizes for the top three teams., and there were prizes for guessing the jelly beans in the jar.
Message from Emily, Our Event Planning Committee Chair:
Thank you for joining us today at the Easter event!  We hope everyone had a good time!  We could not have asked for better weather!
Thank you to our 🐰bunny helpers: Corbyn, Olivia,  Cathy, Donna, and Kelly.

A few minutes later we had ice cream.

Spring Spruce-Up, Mar 26

Picture
The Park, Landscaping & Commons Committee held a neighborhood day to spruce things up. We had about 16  volunteers. Thank you to all the volunteers that came to help this past Saturday at our Park Clean Up!!!

Here's a list of things accomplished Saturday:
--Trimmed trees and picked up fallen limbs at the soccer field.
--The shade on the soccer bench had one corner of repaired.
--At the playground, smoothed out the mulch and added mats underneath all of the swings. This included the baby swings.
--Attached about 250 feet of chicken wire to fence with staple guns. This will help prevent balls and toys going into the creek.
--Put fertilizer stakes around all living fence trees and cedars in the planter beds at the north and south entries.
--Cut down two dead trees. Cut up and piled wood from the first tree, for the taking. The other dead tree behind Swingman Court was pulled down. The thick underbrush prevented cutting it down in smaller pieces.
--Picked up litter in the woods and cleaned up branches in other mowing areas. A load of brush was taken to the landfill.

Clean up Team:  Emily and Jonathon Leidy, Darrell Hall, Bill Cook, Lori Philo-Cook, Tommy Arthurs, Greg Miles, Ron Bebee, Suzie Broyles, James Crouse, John Farris, Kelly Zachgo, Bryce, and three others that Suzie brought in from the neighborhood.
Our PL&C Chair, Kelly Zachgo says, "Thank you to all who assisted with this day of work!"

And, there are still some leftover projects, so contact Kelly Zachgo if you can help out, even for a couple of hours.

PL&C Committee/Neighborhood Work Day, May 15

As you know, the coldest, longest lasting winter weather since the 1890s wreaked havoc on our neighborhood trees, shrubs and plants. The PL&C Committee (Park, Landscaping & Commons) waited, hoping the shrubs near the pond and creek areas (between the playground and soccer fields) would show signs of life. But they all died.

First, the shrubs had to be dug up and hauled; they hired the company that does our mowing to help. Then, once the shrubs were removed, committee members trimmed the dead and overhanging tree branches on the creek side. They grew concerned about the possibility of curious children playing on the fence and possibly falling into the creek. They came up with a solution: the addition of 16 ft wire fencing panels.  Most of that work was completed on May 15. An amazing amount of work was completed; there is still a bit more to do, including some more painting and hauling limbs away.

The whole area looks cleaner and less cluttered. The next step is to plant some holly and forsythia along the front of the fences on both sides of the street. The sides will likely be left as they are for a clean, architectural look. When the committee is ready for the next step, we will post the date on time on the website. The committee would appreciate some additional help with painting and planting new shrubs.

We hosted a virtual Annual Meeting on January 26,  via an app called Zoom. We had 56 people attend online and 24 proxies were mailed in, that allowed the Board to vote on any issues that came up except Board election (ballots were mailed in with these proxies). There were also 7 proxies allowing the Board to vote for them on all matters including the HOA Board election. A total of 47 Board ballots were mailed in or delivered.

Thank you to all who participated by attending or mailing in ballots and/or proxies. There were many good questions and ideas for the future.

All 2020 Board members were re-elected in addition to one previous Board member. In addition, we received a total of 60 surveys re: possible change to the outbuilding covenant. This represents a 25.7% response rate. Results are posted in the Covenants section.

Also, a big thanks to Board Treasurer Jonathon Leidy who organized the Nov 7th event.

Trick or Treating at Frisco Ridge, Sat Oct 31

The Frisco Ridge Event Planning Committee felt that Trick or Treating could be done safely, with masks and social distancing. Many kids wear masks for Halloween anyway, so it's a natural during this time of Covid.

The committee handed out full-size candy bars at 649 Branch Line on Halloween.
The wearing of masks by all was encouraged. The committee asked everyone to make every attempt to minimize exposure and keep contact with trick or treaters as brief as possible.

It was nice to have a normal activity for kids and over 200 participated.  It was a lot of fun.
